IAEA School of Radiation Emergency Management for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)

Managing radiation emergencies requires skilled professionals. The IAEA offers a School of Radiation Emergency Management to help Member States develop the needed expertise. The intensive 2_week course provides comprehensive knowledge of the necessary emergency preparedness and response requirements to assess and improve radiation emergency preparedness systems based on IAEA safety standards on emergency preparedness and response and technical tools, such as EPR series publications, technical documents, accident reports and associated training materials.  It strengthens participants’ ability to develop and manage sustainable emergency preparedness and response (EPR) programmes.

The target audience is professionals from organizations responsible and accountable at the management and coordination levels for emergency preparedness and response in all Member States.

The school has a modular structure based on the IAEA Safety Standards Series. The content will be delivered through modules on various theoretical and practical subjects, presenting specific aspects that are best considered separately. This structure makes it possible to highlight some significant elements of an EPR program through lectures, working sessions, case studies, exercises and visit to different facilities.
