The objective of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of the need for security of radioactive material in transport and with information relevant to the development and implementation of national transport security requirements. The course will refer to specific security measures that may be used to protect radioactive material during transport in accordance with IAEA recommendations and international instruments and will consist of lectures and group exercises. This course will also provide participants with comprehensive insight into radioactive material characterization, security functions, security management and the safety and security interface and will allow participants to engage in scenario-based discussions and exercises. Participants will be expected to present on their experiences developing regulations and/or implementing security for radioactive material in transport.
