Preparations for an Amendment to the CSC
Regional Workshop on the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC) - 1-4 July 2024 - Manila, Philippines
The aim of this event is to provide a comprehensive and high-level overview of the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC). The CSC provides a mechanism to achieve treaty relations with as many States as practicable, with the goal of establishing a global nuclear liability regime. The workshop will address the needs of decision-makers, policy-makers and senior officials (from Member States with and without nuclear installations), as well as other officials including those engaged in the regulation and implementation of nuclear activities. Moreover, the workshop will provide a comprehensive high-level overview of the considerations underlying the implementation of the CSC and the global regime.
Additionally, this event will provide guidance for Member States in developing national nuclear liability legislation reflecting the CSC and will allow participants to exchange information on possible difficulties, concerns and issues that they experience in this area.
IAEA University Partnership Programme - Teaching Materials
Regional Workshop on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage for Latin American Countries, 24–27 October 2023, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The virtual workshop is being organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with Badan Pengawas Tenaga Nuklir (BAPETEN) and with the support of experts from the International Expert Group on Nuclear Liability (INLEX).
INLEX is a group of experts with recognized high-level expertise in the field of civil liability for nuclear damage, and related issues, established by the Director General of the IAEA in order to provide authoritative advice and guidance on issues relating to civil liability for nuclear damage and assist the IAEA Secretariat in conducting outreach activities and providing legislative assistance in IAEA Member States. It contributes to IAEA activities aimed at facilitating the establishment of a global nuclear liability regime and its implementation at the national level.
In the context of enhancing global adherence to the international nuclear liability instruments and the strengthening of national nuclear liability legal frameworks, the IAEA Secretariat carries out on a regular basis, with the support of INLEX members, certain outreach activities, which include workshops for interested Member States. The continuation of INLEX and its support for IAEA’s outreach activities to facilitate the achievement of a global nuclear liability regime have been repeatedly encouraged by the IAEA General Conference.
The purpose of the event is to provide information on the international legal instruments on nuclear liability adopted under the auspices of the IAEA, with a focus on the 1997 Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage.
Additional purposes of the event are to advise on the development of implementing national legislation, and to provide a forum where participants can exchange information on possible difficulties, concerns and issues that their countries may have with the international regime.

IAEA Topical Webinar Series on Nuclear Law
The IAEA Topical Webinar Series on Nuclear Law is devised as an online alternative to OLA training activities in the context of the legislative assistance programme postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Implemented within the framework of the relevant regional Technical Cooperation projects, the Webinar Series will be conducted by OLA staff and experts.
The Webinar Series consists of eight interactive lectures focused on topical issues in nuclear law.
