Webinar 3.7 New Publication - Nuclear Educational Networks Experience Gained and Lessons Learned

This webinar series will provide an introduction to specialist processes deployed by the IAEA to support the development of education and human resource capability in the Member States. In particular the activities to help Member States develop a sustainable pipeline of qualified nuclear professionals to meet the needs of industry by bringing together educational providers and expertise across networks and university nuclear educational programmes.

Webinar 3.6 New Publication - Key Performance Indicators to Support Nuclear Knowledge Management Programmes

The webinar will give an overview of the monitoring of knowledge management performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The webinar aims to support experts in operating organizations, regulatory bodies and technical support organizations, who are responsible for the  development, implementation and improvement of knowledge management programmes, by addressing how to monitor and measure the effectiveness of the  different elements of a knowledge management programme.

During the webinar, international experts will present good practices and lessons learned in developing and improving performance indicators for knowledge management programmes. They will describe their respective experiences and approaches that have been the most effective.

By attending this webinar, you will be able to:

• Recognize the importance of the efficient and effective monitoring of knowledge management performance;

• Introduce specific activities for developing and improving performance indicators related to knowledge management;

• Learn from experiences in different countries.

Webinar 3.5 New Publication - Application of Plant Information Models to Manage Design Knowledge through the Nuclear Power Plant Life Cycle

Advanced computer simulation technologies and knowledge management practices are now setting the way that nuclear power plants are designed, operated and decommissioned.  Knowledge-centric plant information models (K-PIM) are increasingly leveraged to better support and manage a seamless sharing, transfer and use of relevant design knowledge within, and across, each phase of a nuclear power plant life cycle.

Invited international experts will explain the PIM concepts, their benefit values and challenges. They will also discuss the lessons learned from industrial applications in the design, construction management and application of complex engineering facilities based on PIM-technologies.

By attending this webinar, you will be able to:

• Gain awareness of the PIM concepts for the support and management of the design basis of a nuclear power plant across the plant life cycle;

• Identify the most common process-based PIM practices and their benefits and limitations in managing the design basis knowledge

• Describe the development objectives of knowledge centric PIMs

Learn about the specific advantages, business drivers and challenges for K-PIM development for key industry applications.

Webinar 3.4 New Publication - Guidance to Knowledge Management Strategies and Approaches in Nuclear Organizations

The webinar will provide guidance to systematically analyse and develop a strategic knowledge management programme in nuclear organizations. During the webinar, industry experts in knowledge management will share their experience of developing successful knowledge management strategies.

By attending this webinar, the participant will learn about a systematic approach for developing a strategic knowledge management programme that will provide sustainable safety and business benefits.

Department managers, knowledge management practitioners and senior leaders from nuclear organizations will benefit by participating in this webinar.

3.3 New Publication - Methodology to Determine Critical Knowledge in Nuclear Organizations

*: Nuclear organizations managing their corporate knowledge assets must make an objective analysis in order to determine the knowledge they must manage over the lifecycle.  In this age of knowledge, the competitiveness and the future of nuclear organizations, are becoming more and more dependent on the knowledge that companies possess and how they use, share and protect it.   As a result, identification of the knowledge that is critical to the organization’s sustained safety, performance and cost competitiveness, plays an important factor.

However, what constitutes critical knowledge is often not well known, understood or easy to define.

The IAEA is therefore developing a systematic methodological approach that is based on:

• A specified evaluation and ranking criteria that helps organizations identify the critical, strategic knowledge that a company relies on and the individuals who are critical to its continued success;

• Identifying he knowledge that is at risk of being lost;

• Identifying the individuals that are at risk of being lost;

• The mitigation of potential loss by the prioritization of actions.

By attending this webinar, you will be able to:

• Understand the importance of managing critical knowledge as a business risk factor;

• Recognize the risk informed decision making process and graded approach for critical knowledge assessment and prioritization;

• Broadly identify the steps of the methodology and evaluation criteria used to derive the heat map of critical knowledge at risk;

• Explain how the findings of the critical knowledge assessment inform the KM strategy and other organizational processes.

Webinar 3.2 New Publication - Mentoring and Coaching Approaches for Knowledge Management in Nuclear Organizations

The webinar will introduce the concept of mentoring and coaching and how to use them for developing a strategic knowledge management programme in nuclear organizations. During the webinar, industry experts will share their experience of using mentoring and coaching techniques for developing successful knowledge management strategies.

By attending this webinar, participants will:

• Gain a good understanding of mentoring and coaching techniques and the importance of these tools for knowledge management in nuclear organizations;

• Learn successful mentoring and coaching approaches that promote effective knowledge transfer and improved organizational performance;

• Learn guidance for applying mentoring and coaching as a tool to develop successful knowledge management programmes.

Supervisors, department managers, knowledge management practitioners and senior leaders from nuclear organizations will benefit by participating in this webinar.

Webinar 3.1 New Publication - Practical Approaches to Retain Tacit Knowledge in Nuclear Organizations

Maintaining long-term nuclear competencies in nuclear organizations is a critical challenge, because a large part of the knowledge that is critical to an organization is based on experience that resides in the minds of professionals. The loss of this tacit or implicit knowledge due to employees with unique and critical experience-based knowledge retiring or changing jobs represents a risk to an organization’s performance and safety. The IAEA is developing a consistent description of techniques for capturing and transferring the tacit knowledge of departing experts that will be presented during the webinar.

Expert speakers from IAEA Member States will share their experience and good practices in applying a combination of techniques to retain and transfer tacit knowledge.

By attending this webinar, participants will:

• Gain a good understanding of challenges around tacit knowledge extraction and gain an understanding of some of the tools and techniques available to identify, capture and transfer tacit knowledge in nuclear organizations.
