Introduction to Nuclear Forensics

The objective of this module is to raise awareness and understanding of the scope and application of nuclear forensics and its role in a national nuclear security regime and national response plan; support Member States in adopting or developing nuclear forensic capabilities; prepare participants for the IAEA’s human resource development activities; and support organizational training initiatives.

The target audience for this module is all individuals with roles and responsibilities in nuclear security (e.g. policy and decision makers, competent authorities, regulatory bodies, law enforcement, intelligence agencies, operators); individuals supporting the development and implementation of a State’s national response plan for nuclear security events; those tasked with raising awareness of nuclear forensics or; those responsible for organizing and sustaining capabilities for nuclear forensic analysis and interpretation in the context of a nuclear security regime.

Nuclear Security Detection Architecture Awareness

This e-learning module is designed to provide basic awareness on core nuclear security detection architecture concepts including:  Understanding the scope and framework of a national-level NSDA; Developing awareness around core nuclear security detection architecture concepts; Understanding the need for coordination and cooperation among key stakeholders at all levels with the aim of contributing to nuclear security risk assessment; national level detection strategy; inventory or existing capabilities and resources; and national level concept of operations for detection.

The audience for this course is intended to include all senior level personnel responsible for the national policy, strategy, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of a nuclear security detection architecture and involved in: National security; Customs and border security; Law enforcement; Operational information and analysis; Legal and regulatory framework; Technical support organizations; Any other competent authority responsible for nuclear security.

Use of Radiation Detection Instruments for Front Line Officers

This course explores radiation basics, how to work the basic functions of radiation detection equipment for nuclear security applications, when and how to use them, and how to verify and respond to an equipment alarm.

This course is addressed to front-line officers, border guards, customs officials and law enforcement officers around the world using handheld radiation detection instruments, as well as participants of relevant face-to-face training and other human resource development activities implemented by the IAEA and its Member-States. Interested nuclear facility personnel and the public are also welcome.

Nuclear Security Threats and Risks: Material out of Regulatory Control

This e-learning module is designed to develop learner's understanding of nuclear security threats and risks for material out of regulatory control (MORC), including an introduction to MORC; criminal and intentional unauthorized acts; adversary tactics for acquiring and moving MORC; material for potential threat devices; and risk informed approach.

The audience for this course is intended to include all personnel and organizations with nuclear security responsibilities and functions.
