Introduction to Nuclear Security Culture

Nuclear security culture plays an important role in ensuring that individuals, organizations, and institutions remain vigilant and that sustained measures are taken to prevent and combat the threat of sabotage or using radioactive material for malicious acts. An organization is successful when they consider the economic, social, and environmental standards necessary to comply with the safety and security requirements for using nuclear and other radioactive material. In this module, we will discuss how human factors contribute to nuclear security system effectiveness, the IAEA nuclear security concept, who is involved in the establishment, maintenance, and enhancement of nuclear security culture inside of an organization, and the steps required to assess and enhance nuclear security cultures.

This course is designed for individuals at all levels of organizations that use or possess nuclear or other radioactive material as well as those with regulatory or supervisory responsibility for nuclear material security inside a State.

Introduction to the International Legal Framework for Nuclear Security

This E-learning module is designed to raise awareness regarding the international legal framework for nuclear security; with an emphasis on the CPPNM and its Amendment, support adherence to and effective implementation of the CPPNM and its Amendment at the national level, promote the benefits of joining the CPPNM and its Amendment and prepare participants for IAEA lecture-based courses.

The audience for this course is intended to include individuals with roles and responsibilities in nuclear security, individuals involved in preparation for adherence to and implementation of the CPPNM and/or its Amendment at a national level, individuals with assigned CPPNM roles and responsibilities (Points of Contact (POCs) and Competent Authorities (CAs)), and relevant NGOs/think-tanks and students in nuclear security.

Introduction to and Overview of IAEA Nuclear Security Series Publications

The objective of this course is to help learners understand the nature and status of IAEA guidance and its relation to international instruments; understand the categorical hierarchy and structure of the Nuclear Security Series (NSS) including the categories of material and facilities around which it is structured; and promote awareness of the processes for developing, reviewing, and revising guidance, including the Nuclear Security Guidance Committee (NSGC) and its related processes. The course is also intended to help learners become aware of the content of the guidance available and to understand and consistently use key terminology.

The audience for this course is intended to include all personnel with nuclear security responsibilities: government policy makers and strategists, competent authorities including regulatory bodies, intelligence agencies, security agencies, response personnel, law enforcement agencies, and facility operators and carriers.
